Zencart for year 9 pupils?

Discussion in 'Computing and ICT' started by mossonbrick, Feb 26, 2011.

  1. We have set up a test class of Year 9 students with a domain name each and access to CPanel. Next week, we will be showing them how to install a shopping cart as part of a Business project, starting with setting up an sql database and user. We managed to get a domain and web hosting space for £14.99 per year. Has anyone found a webhost that's cheaper, as we want to roll this out to the other year 9 classes after Easter and am trying to keep the costs low.

It's free and comes with databases as well.
Last time I tried last year the fantistico installer doesn't work on the free version but you can install the shopping cart using the instructions provided with the kit - basically just FTPing the files over and a few other bits and pieces.

  4. Run it inside school and set up your own whm? You could even ask/badger cpanel for their educational free licence explaining what you're doing, set up sub or virtual cname domains, it could be almost lifelike! ! (And free )
