Daughter has been set a homework task to prepare a presentation on a narrative poem of her choice. We both agreed not The Highwayman (done to death in yr6), but beyond that my Primary (and science) background is not much use for helping her.
I've got a copy of the Song of Hiawatha (too long?) and lots of Tolkien, so I showed her The Adventures of Tom Bombadil. Would that work at yr 7? Would she need to cover all 16 poems that make up the 'Adventures' or just the first one (6 pages) that introduces Tom and his escapades?
  2. I should think just the first one - it sounds a lovely idea and very topical!
  3. Also how about Benjamin Zephaniah's 'Danny the Cat'?

Thank you Flossrock. She's really got into it.
I showed her Danny the Cat - she liked it but thinks it's too short.
