But I'm not sure... because you are linking to it, not actually publishing it. So the problem would be on the platform it was originally published wouldn't it? Like youtube having a whole film uploaded... that'd be breach of copyright unless it was done by the rights holder...

Not a legal expert... probably better if @GLsghost or @Crowbob deal with it really.

As the information is freely available via google, I posted a link.

It was certainly not to create havoc, or break terms and conditions.

I'm a bit upset, to be honest, that in trying to be supportive, I may have done something wrong.:(

Why not contact the mods and ask them to remove the thread if it's worrying you.

Assuming that the site you are linking to has permission to publish/ share it then I don't see how you'd be breaking copyright law.

The link with the asterisks- is it DC Thompson's site? If so they are probably the copyright owners - they certainly won't be infringing it (Neither will Amazon)

Photocopying the story for pupils might be a no-no.

How about having it on the smartboard/ promethean?

I did link to a free download as well?

It often makes me wonder, if there is only one copy of a text available in the school, what does a teacher do?

I'm afraid GL doesn't know anything about copyright law. :(

I thought so, but when I typed that into the link I found myself at DC Thopmson's web site.

    I'd have thought so.

I'd expect putting it out on a smartboard etc to be OK- I think there might be technical problems with mass photocopies.

Once upon a time some schools at least paid to be able to photocopy, so you might be able to through your school - sort of like the libraries with their paying to the society of authors.

Indeed. Why pick a text that has only one copy?

As with most "new" obsessions in education, how many are properly costed or planned?

The PDF files linked to are copyright infringement. Linking to them is effectively illegal file sharing (so too would emailing them or sharing them in any other way). Many schools will face similar difficulties when they begin making plans for the Nativity Play.

Why couldn't I quote Charlotte's Web on stage?

  16. lanokia

Indeed... done that a fair bit myself... so I don't think it breaks T&Cs... but the mods will be able to decide.

Why didn't you just post that to the original thread?

    @blowswind has clarified.

There'll be many an SLT caring not a hoot...

I tried, however as my messages are 'moderated' and half of them dissapear it's hard to keep track of any kind of discussion.

The not 'caring a hoot' is very evident on TES. Copyright theft and plagiarism are endemic. Are people as lenient with students who copy?

Completely appreciate your comments- I wasn't being mean!

Unfortunately the teacher in question has only been given ONE copy of the text!!

Just HOW in the name of all that is ETHICAL can a text be taught to a whole class if there is only ONE sodding copy in the school?

SLT do not give a FLYING FLIPPER!
