Other than the gothic extracts that have been recommended, what are some of your favourites for pre-20th Century reads (KS3)?
I've used full texts or extracts from:
    • Dickens
    • Wizard of Oz series
    • John Carter of Mars series
    • HG Wells
    • Defoe
    • Austen
Any more you've found worked well, or suspect might work well?

I wouldn't say they were my favourite but I've taught Markheim (Stevenson) as a way of further exploring the themes of Jekyll & Hyde, and The Lady Macbeth of Mtsenk (Lemov) to do the same with Macbeth. I've also occassionally used O Henry stories (especially The Gift of the Magi around Christmas time).
