Discussion in 'Jobseekers' started by sueleo, Dec 9, 2011.

  1. Hello

After long months of applications finally an interview. It's for a Year 5/6 Teacher and I am
ok for the teaching brief which is

The brief is:: To solve one-step and two-step problems involving whole numbers and decimals, using at least one of the four operations, choosing and using appropriate calculation strategies.

If I am asked what to do to plan subsequent lessons from this I am unsure of where I would be heading. The kids will be working out 10% of toys on sale in Argos and the reduction . Some will also be doing 20/40/15% and poss 1/2%.

I would think practice in doubling/halving/fractions/multiplication/division and subtraction/decimal practice and consolidation of tenth/hundredths etc are all relevant any Wise Ones out there who can refine my understanding I would be eternally grateful.

    Sue

    Well congratulations on that interview.
Generally the advice on this forum is not to give ideas or too much advice in case your competition see those ideas. I think it's unlikely
but have a look at teh Maths specs to see if your objectives are in line and where they would fit. (Sorry if that doesn't make sense and trying not to say too much compounded by a bad headache with my cold)
Go with your gut feelings as to what to do and best of luck.

  3. Hi Lara
Thanks for that. How sad that people believe in not sharing ideas for fear of the future that's the human race 15 steps back in my opinion. Hope your cold is better soon.

You can find the Primary Maths Framework here:
    http://www.teachfind.com/primary-mathematics-framework
Select Learning Objectives on the first page in the top left box marked sections.
    Choose the year 5
Choose the strand Using and Applying
    Then Go
You'll then be able to see the objective for your lesson, along with the year below and the year above.
Hopefully this will inform you of what they have done and what they will do next.

You can also look at this document:
    https://www.tes.co.uk/teaching-resource/Year-5-Maths-Pitch-and-Expectations-6094089/
It has the pitch and expectations for year 5.

Year 4 and 6 are also available if you want these for reference:

    https://www.tes.co.uk/teaching-resource/Pitch-and-expectations-Year-6-6054521/

Very best wishes - I hope the interview goes well! [IMG]

No, Sueleo. It's because there are cases of more than one candidate turning up for interview and doing the same class they had seen suggested on the TES forum. Four candidates at one school. They were all disqualified. So you see that Lara gave that advice in your best interest. Posted from my Galaxy tab
