year 9 mfl hell!

Discussion in 'Modern foreign languages' started by misasimz, Feb 10, 2011.

  1. With the English BAC thing and our traditional low-uptake at GCSE, the senior leaders decided to make GCSE Spanish / French compulsory for the kids in top sets year 9, and sent a letter home to the kids in these 2 classes. However, we in the department did not know this letter was going out to have anythign pre-prepared to work on with the lasses, and the kids are kicking up a right stick about it.
Does anyone know of any good resources that we could use after the half term to show them why it is good to do GCSE language? All we've been hearing since the letter went is that they don't want to do it coz they're not going to work with languages!!! [IMG]

  2. We are lucky that in our school it has always been compulsory to do a language, however, the downside is that we always get asked that dreaded question! I went on the TES resources where I found some fantastic stuff for display plus powerpoints and other bits including which jobs you can do with languages, how having a language can earn you more money, which celebrities speak different languages.
There is a wealth of resources on this website that you could use.
    Hope this helps
