Hello there. I'll be starting a new school in September and they start GCSE edexcel in year 9. I'd like the first lesson to be interactive and interesting not PowerPoint PowerPoint etc. Any ideas?

I had to teach year 9 a few business lessons as part of pshe. We watched a dragon's den clip and noted down all the business related vocabulary on the board. Then they had to work in pairs to choose 10 words and find out their meaning. They used an online business dictionary to help them do this. I was then going to get them to plan their own business and pitch it to the class but we ran out of time due to all the end of term stuff going on.

I've done a lesson where I brought in a product, e.g. crisps - one branded, one shop own and one unbranded - not let them know which for tasting and then discussed what branding means and the importance. it worked well, the kids got some free crisps to taste and also got the point of how branding matters. Can do further work on terminology, work in pairs on creating own brand name and logo or other tasks. This really engaged them from the start.
