Year 7 English

Discussion in 'English' started by KaraLT, Jul 26, 2011.

  1. Hi, I've just qualified as an Early Years teacher but have agreed to help tutor a dyslexic boy going into year 7 in September. Mum said she just wanted general help with reading and writing, but as I've never taught this age group I'm not quite sure what to expect!

Any tips or advice on what to do with him would be greatly appreciated!

    Thanks so much,
    Kara.

  2. Look at what he's been doing in Year 6 by checking his books. If possible, see if you can find out the books he'll be looking at in his new school. I would get him reading...'Skellig', 'Boy in Striped Pyjamas', 'Whispers in the Graveyard' (which deals with a boy with dyslexia), 'Kensuke's Kingdom' etc. You read them first, Kara, and then plan some discussion/work from what you've read. Look at the things he's interested in, such as football teams, and work through articles/reviews on something like that.
