Can anyone think of any stories set around rivers suitable for Y6?
Last year my year 5s loved 'The River of Adventure' by Enid Blyton. There are probably more modern stories out there, but they loved that one.
The Wind in the Willows would surely be a good one?
Journey to the River Sea; Minnow on the Say; Tom's Midnight Garden (only because of the bit at the end where they skate up to Ely); Little Grey Men There's a Philipa Pearce story about a boy who is dared to jump across a river as well which is very good. Its in a collection called the Rope.
The Great Elephant Chase by Gillian Cross. It's an adventure story. A boy and a girl steal an elephant and take it on a journey across America, including by barge.
