Year 6 Residential Visit Suggestions Wanted

Discussion in 'School trips' started by Rebbol, Mar 31, 2012.

  1. We have been using the same residential centre in Dorset for many years and feel ready for a change. Our requirements are somewhere near to the coast; somewhere that offers history/geography in addition to adventurous/team building activities and also somewhere not too expensive.
Does anyone have any recommendations? Thanks

  3. what part of the country are you from? How far do you want to travel?

  4. Normandy is great, you can stay in a real French Chateua, there's oodles of WWII history as well as the Bayeux tapestry and other Norman stuff. Great geography too, and a fossils like Dorset. Try STS tour operator.

  5. We are from Coventry. We are happy to travel about 4 hours by coach, possibly a bit more for the right place.

  6. Thanks jackiejl. Have just checked out the sts website and it looks really good. However, I have never taken pupils abroad before. Is it much more stressful than residentials in the UK?

How about the Isle of Wight? I've done many brilliant trips there. Loads of history and geography, and some activity centres as well. Have used a company called Activity Island before who were excellent. Kids get to go on a ferry so feel like they are going "abroad" without the hassle of passports!

  8. Just about to take my 9/10 year olds for 4 days at the Scout centre, great resource and wonderfully helpful staff.

There are loads of these throughout UK.

Also, we take our age10/11 to CAT which is amazing! Long drive from London:

We will next year take our age 10/11 to Hampshire, alternative energy...staying in Yurts and Tee-pees :)

  9. Thanks for all the suggestions. The Normandy trip was a bit out of our price bracket (our budget is about £240 for 4 nights including travel, food and activities). I am going to look into Jonny1234s suggestions. Yurts and tee-pees sound brave, especially if weather is not good! Our priority is somewhere on the coast.

  10. Hia,

I just wanted to let you know that the residentials at the Sustainability Centre dont have to be in yurts and tepees as they also have an eco-lodge with rooms, bathrooms, toilets, kitchen, common room thats will fit 36 children. www.sustainability-centre.org Feedback from these residentails is very positive..

  11. Have you checked out The Bushcraft Company? I think they have a place in Hampshire and Dorset.

  17. Have you tried East Dene on the Isle of Wight? If you go out of season (i.e. the spring or autumn term) the price is much lower, around £165+VAT for a 4 night teaching programme. We run teambuilding, rock pooling, explore the history of the local area, tree climbing, low ropes and many more. View our brochure online at www.allnatt.co.uk/content/brochure-request.php to find out more.
