Year 6/7 Induction - English Lesson

Discussion in 'English' started by Daisylu1, Jun 29, 2011.

  1. I have been asked to come up with a 1 hour English lesson for year 6's when they come on induction day.

My brief is 'to get the students wanting to learn English!'

Any ideas for fun interactive lessons i could do?

    All ideas greatly appreciated!
  2. Always quite good to have a sensory lesson. Bring in enough of an object for one per child (I've used pinecones and leaves - food can be tricky because of allergies). Let them work through their senses in responding to the object (it feels bumpy/smells earthy - avoid TASTE!) Once they have some ideas, work through similes and then get them to write a poem. An acrostic is simple, but you could really use any form you want. I've used cinquains because you can also go over parts of speech. Let them write the poem on a bit of paper and illustrate with a picture of the object and they have something to take home too!
  3. Thanks!
That's a great idea - i will definitely consider doin something like that!
