Next half term we are doing Ancient Egypt as our topic and our linking our Literacy to it.
Just wondered if anyone has done this - what did you do? what did you use?
If you have any planning/resources I would be very grateful to see it :)

  3. We did this last term and I had to do a lot of cc writing as we are trying hard to improve the writing in yr5. So linked a lot to Literacy and History.

Pasasge or letter to introduce the topic or about the Nile.

Obvious is Newspaper reports about Howard Carter finding the tomb, even diary writing or letter writing. You could do interviews or a radio report etc.

Mummification- instructional writing. There is a great website where the children do the mummification. I got them to take notes then write up as instructions. You could also link this with Art and DT depending what you are doing.

We also wrote instruction to the game Senat- British Museum has a great website.

    Descriptive writing about artefacts.

Retell the story of Cinderella- Egyptian version although check the spelling on this site!

Numeracy we did Egyptian numbers. Our DT was musical instruments so linked numeracy more that way. But I do know there are some good websites based around numeracy.

Just added a few websites that I found helpful.

  4. Sorry, didn't read your title properly! Didn't realise you wanted links for Myths and Legends.

That's ok! The links you've posted will come in useful for other Egyptian things I'm doing :)

  6. I'm in year 5 too. I hope this isn't too late for you but we are doing the exact same thing and I have almost finished writing the plan for literacy. We are looking at The Egyptian Cinderella by Shirley Climo. Leave your email address and I will email the plan to you once finished.

We are also linking the book to Talking Texiles.

  7. Just realised that you've already left your email. I will email you tomorrow.

  8. Hi Kay2005, I am also doing this Lit unit, linked with Egyptians and I wondered whether it would be possible to look at how you've planned this. I'm new to year 5/6 and this would really help get me started.

  9. Hello,
I would be so grateful if you could also send me your planning too, just to give me a starting point. My e-mail addess is sarahlouiseaton@aol.com.
    Thanks again,
    Sarah

  10. Hey Kay, could I possibly have a copy of your planning too?

Dont suppose I could be cheeky enough to jump on the bandwagon too could I? Moving to year5 seemed such a good idea last year. Now I have to do all new plans from scratch im doubting my decision!!!
    Thank you,

  13. Would you be able to email your planning of the Egyptian Cinderella for year 5 please? I know it was a while ago that you wrote this thread so if you still have it it would be really appreciated.

    Thank you,
