Year 4 - Day 1

Discussion in 'New teachers' started by joojoo29, Jul 16, 2011.

  1. I've just qualified as a teacher. I specialised in the Foundation Phase (Wales). I have been offered a job in a year 4 class at my final placement school. I have had no experience at Key Stage 2 but I am really excited about the challenge.

The question I have is really related to the first day. What ice-breakers should I use? Are there any activities anyone could suggest so I can quickly get to know the children and they can get to know me?

Thank you in advance for any suggestions.

    Leanne.

  2. Hi Leanne, I'm an NQT getting year 4 too. Have you already had a transistion day with the class? On mine I did fun activities such as bingo, creating a class jigsaw, each child having their own piece (good for displays!), making chatterboxes, playing challange games. I also let them question me as it's often the teacher asking all the questions. I was also planning on getting them to each write down their aspirations for the year and putting them in a sort of time capsule to look at at the end of the year. Hope this helps. Anything you do will be great as they will be so excited at meeting you if this is the first time. :) Rachael
