Year 2 Reading Home/School Communication. Advice please!!!

Discussion in 'Primary' started by spannywinx, Jul 17, 2011.

  1. Hello!
I am a Year 2 teacher and currently after reading with every guided reading group I write a comment in the child's home/school communication book. If I'm honest I start the year off with individual comments - he sounded out 'shock' well, using pictures and context to answer comprehension questions etc. - and then by this time of the year it is usually quite a generic comment.
I realise the advantage of these comments - parents kept in loop, realise we ARE reading with their children etc. BUT I wondered if anyone had a better system as writing these comments takes AGES and I feel there are many more valuable ways I could spend my time!
I was considering a 'tick sheet' - your child sounded out well, used these cues etc. ??
I wondered if anyone does the same system as me (if loads do maybe I should stick with it) or if anyone had a better system?
    ANY ideas would be great!
