Had Year 1/2 for few years with standard areas of provision (role play, writing, books, maths, investigation, small world, construction, creative, malleable) relating to half termly topics. Feeling we want to re-invigorate this system. We put tasks in each area each week, kids must do and tick off on chart when done. But what they produce is never great, and as we don't have a TA to support them in areas, the tasks have to be relatively simple enough to complete without help. Many kids just never do it, even thought they know they will not get their golden time on a Friday. Of course, there is also the problem of teacher time - we can only do so much towards planning and resourcing the areas each week as other demands of planning, afl etc are ever increasing! Has anyone found a way to get the most out of their areas in a manageable way?
