so it arrived today. I can't open it before the day we have decided to do the test and there is a long and a short. Doesn't say if these have to be done on the same day?
how is this benefitting my class if it is still a complete suprise??
  2. Can be done anytime until the end of June (which means we can have an extra month of learning compared to those doing externally marked tests) so there is no way people won't talk about what is in it. Is there?

They still have to be done in test conditions - and you shouldn't open them until you are going to do them!
And yes, there are issues surrounding the "security" of the actual test as one school may have opened it before another. What's the alternative? Stick with the externally marked tests. You do not report the levels from either writing test, just a teacher assessment .... so even IF schools internal tests suggest high levels, they should be moderated from regular assessment to reflect actual reported TA anyway.
This years arrangements are "interim" and feedback from them will inform the testing arrangements for 2013.
What's the betting that the 2013 tests will go back to being all externally marked?

It says you shouldn't open them not that you can't open them!! Always a loop hole ...
