Y2 Project on space and planets

Discussion in 'Primary' started by amaryllis2, Apr 11, 2011.

  1. Hi,
I'm doing a project on Space and Planets after Easter with a Y2 class - (we ae trying to introduce a creative curriculum.) Does anyone have any ideas as to how I could get started? I'm looking for a book I could base it on but cant find anything 'spacey' enough.
    Many thanks,

  3. We did this (but I'm in Year 6) and staged a space ship landing on the school field (planted a space craft, smoke grenades, slimy footprints, fire brigade, police etc). You could scale it down a bit for Year 2s. Our book for the topic was a fiction one (but not suitable for Year 2s) called George's Secret Key to the Universe. The only fiction book I can think of with my limited knowledge of KS1 is the ORT Jackdaws one entitled Space and Planets. In my class, I also had one of those electric solar systems that attached to the ceiling and spun round and also had a 5m length of black material, which I attached to the wall and stuck some large 3D planets and stars onto...available on Amazon I think.

Have a look at these two threads - they both have suggestions for Space topics. The first has some book suggestions and the second has a link to planning (for y1, but I'm sure you'll be able to use some of the ideas).
