Reading ages are an essential tool when creating resources to support students in the classroom but I've just found a quick and easy way to calculate the reading age of any text you produce on Microsoft word! Here's how:

Read the instructions on this page, remember you have to go in to file and options to tick the box to display reading statistics. You'll also find below how the US grades equate to UK schools!

AGE US Grade UK Year group
    5 - 10 Kindergarten - 5th Years 1 - 6
    11 - 13 6th - 8th Years 7 - 9
    14 - 18 9th - 12th (Senior) Years 10 - 13

As a tip, use a glossary book to denote the meaning of any words that are 3 syllables or higher
    Hope it helps!
