Working in the independent sector as an NQT

Discussion in 'New teachers' started by twinklekaz, Jan 23, 2012.

  1. Hi I'm currently doing my PGCE in Music, and I am looking for jobs and noticed a few jobs in the independent sector, and I have a few questions, firstly can you still complete your NQT year in an independent school, and secondly if you climb the pay scale in an independent school, do you have to start at the beginning of the scale again if you go into the public sector? (I've heard this is the case?)
Thanks for any advice you can give.

  2. Short answers to your queston areyes and no.
Yes you can do induction in a private school BUT not all pricvate schools offer induction and they do not have to offer it.
If you gain experience in private schools then state schools can take account of that when setting your pay, BUT they do not have to. It is a matter of negotiation.
