Will Gove address Computing snobbery by universities?

Discussion in 'Computing and ICT' started by rlfan82, Jan 11, 2012.

  1. Some prestigious universities are advising students that they don't need to take Computing at A-Level in order to study Computer Science at degree level. Even if they have already completed the AS year.
I hope Mr Gove will be sorting this issue out. What is the point of engaging pupils in school if they are then sent off on a route of Maths, Physics, <Other> and expected to pick-up Computer Science at university. 2 wasted years in my opinion.

  2. Same problem as when I did mine. Virtually nobody did Computing at A2AS level, so much smaller pool.
There was a bonanza which started around my group in the 1980s (I'm 48) and died out when the last real standalone programmable systems (Amiga/Atari ST) stopped in the late 1990s.
