Why is it impossible to remove the plastic film lid from foil trays?

The instructions tell you to remove it - but you need a sharp knife to hack it away and this leaves loads of plastic bits on the rim of the foil tray that are impossible to remove? Can this melt into the food during cooking?

I wouldn't bother removing the plastic bits - that's where most of the nutrients in a ready meal are found!
(and I've never heard of the plastic melting into the meal....so I wouldn't really worry)

It's part of the same rule that says your bread must always fall butter side down.

True, my cooking skills also extend beyond setting the microwave to 4 mins on high. I can do pop tarts and all sorts.
