Why do dog owners/walkers...

... seem to think, just after their 115lb sopping wet cur (I live close to a river and dogs like retrieving sticks thrown into it, apparently) has launched itself into my chest from a running start, that "He's just being friendly" / "He wants to say hello" / "He's only a puppy" justifies their failure to keep control of the hound.

Can I not take a Sunday evening walk unmolested?

Rant over. Going to get a glass of wine.

No idea, @nomad, but cats don't do that, if that helps?;)

I suppose it depends where you go for your walk...

It probably wasn't a lurcher. They don't like to swim and it's relatively unusual to find one that retrieves.

Despite being a dog owner I have had similar experiences. I wish the owners concerned would learn that, if they are going to do this, the best response is an apology.

I now have an image of @nomad being molested every few minutes during his riverbank constitutional. :D

    Beware of the dogs!

Having successfully trained a goodly part of the so called ‘intelligent’ species to follow them around picking up their sh:t, they are now going for the ‘human as towel experiment’.

    It won’t be long before:

... although for some reason, I am not finding this idea as weird as I once might have!

Yuk, I hate it too. Why on earth (some) dog owners seem to expect that everyone adores their hound as much as they do is completely beyond me.

He won't hurt you us the other phrase that gets to me.

Presumably for the same reason as they encourage, whilst tutting at us, their little out of control off lead bundle of fluff to run amongst this lot, even after being warned that at least one of them still chases small furrries
