What I really mean is who is in a place where the salary/allowance is enough to cover renting a house which is near-ish to the school they work in? Which city are you in? I'm in a house now, but the only way I can afford it is to live miles away from work with a long commute. I've lived in apartments before, but I don't really like it. I like to garden and have access to an outdoor space, even if it's only big enough for one plant pot. Across the family we also ride a load of different kinds of bikes and fitting them into a small apartment is difficult, and getting them up and down in a lift is cumbersome. Garden flats are better than nothing, but they can be just as hard to find. I'd crossed a few places off the list because I assumed that it was all tiny flats, but a passing comment from a friend made me realise that my assumptions were not really based on anything.
