Who did you book your summer holiday with?

Discussion in 'Personal' started by airy, Oct 29, 2011.

  1. First Choice are cheap and lovely...unless you have a problem. I ended up in a waterlogged apartment with rain dripping through all the electrical fittings once and the way they dealt with it was appalling. They initially refused to admit that the water/electricity combination was dangerous and there seemed to be no chain of command to deal with problems - just a rep used to organising trips and pub crawls who was clearly untrained and incapable of dealing with more serious issues.

  2. We used "Jetline" - an internet company - they were rubbish- in my opinion. I would NOT recommend them.

we always do it ourselves - the last time we used a company (Simply Corsica) they were unhelpful and the accommodation was not as promised.

I booked our holiday direct with the hotel owner.

We booked a villa in the Languedoc with www.holiday-rentals.co.uk

They are private villas and you deal direct with the owners once you have made a selection from the site.

We have already booked the eurotunnel crossing using our tesco points. We have booked for a fortnight. Our kids and grand daughter will be flying out to us for 12 of the days. We shall spend a leasurly 4 days driving down through France and the same coming home again.

  6. I booked this year's summer holiday with Lowcost Holidays. It was all done through their website, including insurance and transfer costs. The accommodation is cheap and cheerful but then the clue's in the title-it's low cost budget holidays. We went to Tenerife and loved it. The accommodation was a lot better than we had been led to believe by Trip Advisor and I'd book through them again.

  7. It was also all inclusive which my boyfriend took full advantage of with the beers!

We booked our last holiday with Thomson holidays - only the company local to NI which is Falcon.
We looked at booking ourselves, but the special offer we received from the tour company was as reasonable. This is partly because we are flying out of NI and if you don't go on a charter flight your choice of destinations and departure airports are limited and you can end up having to get 2 flights.

  9. I've had good experiences with Thomson but I have the same issue as Doglover about regional flights.

  10. Thomas Cook and they were arses.

  11. Usually book with Thomas Cook

  12. I always book ours independently - I have always found it better value for money. Owners Direct or Holiday Lettings have some fabulous properties, and I trawl the internet for the cheapest flights from one of the local airports. Our holidays usually go without a hitch and I enjoy doing the research! We have been to tenerife, Majorca and Spain this way, plus a couple of city breaks. Recommended.

  13. I booked through www.sunshine.co.uk last year and found them to be fab - they specialise in low cost breaks. For me and partner we had a week in Gran Canaria for just £250 each - the hotel was nothing special but it was clean and comfortable. I was worried before we went as the reviews about the hotel were not great on trip advisor but the hotel had worked out at £27 for the week - most people commented as though they were expecting a 5 star resort! The weather was amazing all week and there were loads of good places to eat. Halfway through our holiday, the airline we had used went into administration (part of the kiss flights saga) but as everything booked through sunshine is ABTA and ATOL protected we had no issues - they phoned us to let us know what was happening and got us home with no problems and only a minor delay while the diverted a plane to us.

  14. I can't believe the hike in flight prices! I'm looking for a holiday to Tenerife leaving on Boxing Day. I've looked at packages and booking it direct myself but the flight prices are sooooo expensive. We got a good deal last year for just over £900 half board for 2 of us, this year the cheapest I can find is £1,300 which is way too much for a week. Anyone know of a good low cost airline?

We always book holidays ourselves - book flights and accomodation separately. We book hotels and hostels directly.
We haven't used a travel agents or tour company for years. It's so easy to do it yourself now with the internet.

The last time we went on a package holiday where everything was arranged was with portland holidays.
We went to Thassos and stayed here:
It was really good value for a 4 star hotel . We hired a car and went all round the island,up into the mountains. We went to look at the monistry and lots of other beaches and towns. It is a really small island so you can drive round all of it easily.
In Thassos town there are ancient classical ruins of temples and an amphitheater and you can just wander round with no supervision - huge pieces of pillars etc are just lying there.
We also had a lovely boat ride as part of the travel cost and the ferry was really nice with a nice bar.
I loved it and it was so restful.
Also the hotel beech wasn't that full and had a beech bar and free sun loungers and umbrellas.
We had a nice drive out to one of the western beaches on night and sat in a beach café sipping iced nescafe frappé watched the sun go down,
The hotel complex had a spa and lots of outdoor drinking area at night which was all lit up with twinkly lights and overlooked the sea.
The food was all fresh buffet stuff...lots for me as a veggie with lovely desserts and all included, same for breakfast - masses of different food.
It was such a relaxing holiday with no stress at all.

Plenty of advice and reviews from holiday makers and not as liable to infiltration by travel firms posting good reviews of their places and bad reviews of rivals.
