When should a child be excluded?

    Usually it's the end of a long process; the terminus of a series of stepped sanctions that have escalated to the point where there are no avenues left within school to explore.

    Or it can be for an act of extreme misbehaviour such that no lesser sanction would be appropriate, e.g. violence towards a member of staff etc.
