I was inspired to look at the teaching of poetry differently when I was visiting a colleague in another school and got into discussions about this and that - she commented on how they had an advanced skills teacher in their school who introduced humanities topics with poems which linked with the topic.
The poems produced by the children were outstanding and I could see how easy it would be to approach poetry in this way.
