When changing jobs do you lose pay over the summer?

Discussion in 'Pay and conditions' started by e_r94, Jan 31, 2018.

  1. Hello, just looking for some clarification before I go and see my Headteacher.

I have been offered a new position for 1st September.
If I hand in a summer term resignation by 31st May, (so my employment would finish 31st August?) Do I get paid for all of August by my current school?

Does that mean I could be asked to do work for the old school over the summer?

    Many Thanks!

If you are under Burgundy Book/STPCD, the answer is yes, you can (and should) resign with effect from 31 August and get paid until then, and no, you cannot be told (they can ask but you can just say 'no') to work beyond the 195 directed days stipulated in STPCD. If not, then it will depend on your contract.
