What to have ready for Ofsted?

Discussion in 'Heads of department' started by Tegfan, Jul 3, 2013.

  1. Hi All,

I'm currently rewriting my staff handbook at looking at the department in terms of what paperwork to have ready for our overdue ofsted inspection.

I am in a fortunate position that I have new staff from September, NQT, who is replacing a very disenfranchised and disengaged teacher, so I want to make sure that I pass on my enthusiasm to that staff member.

I am a HOD Media and we are currently fighting Gove's death to creative and our numbers are suffering, any advice on what others are doing to help combat this would be much appreciated!

Hi Tegfan. I can't help you much but I came here to pretty much ask the same question. I broke up today so have the summer ahead of me and we are due an inspection in the next academic year. I am a single person department, although from September I will have a non-specialist teaching a couple of year 7 classes a week. I am wondering what I can do with regard to paperwork over the summer to give me as little as possible to do when we get that call.
  3. SEF; DDP, data with evidence of intervention, monitoring, levels of progress etc is a good starting point. Evidence of literacy, AfL, marking for progress etc - prepare a box and also a folder on your computer :)
  4. And don't forget teaching and learning! They are more interested in that than the data. Afterall, they have the school's data and your SLT will overload them with other tracking-type data your school has. Do you know who, in your department, is outstanding, good, needs improvement? Those type of things.

Don't know about your school, mine was below average and, they might just as well as sent a letter telling us we had room to improve for all they actually listened to what we said. I had a half hour meeting with the Heads of Maths and Science and an inspector - that was it.
