Journalists are only the stenographers to power. CNN's just doesn't bother to pretend otherwise.
Yes, this is something I have often posted to make the same point about the world becoming generally safer. Like crime figures and birth rate data, it often goes against people's perceptions, but it's a simple fact.
Turkey reinforcing her border... not in anyway preparing an operation across into Syrian Kurd territory... just reinforcing her border.
Crikey the Washington Post is sounding pretty stupid.
Yup... those 2000 troops were a bulwark against Soviet expansionism.
Erm... [whisper: didn't the Cold War end in 1990-91?]
The Turkish leader told Trump he would take care of ISIS so Trump unilaterally decided to pull the US soldiers out of Syria.
Of course there will be small matter of eliminating the Kurds first.
This is what happens when you have an uninformed and reckless child in charge of a major world power
Feels a bit like this:
USA:I'm pulling my troops out of the Middle East.
Hey you can't just pull out whenever you feel like it.
USA: I am not aware of that.
General Mattis is now going at the end of the year.
Trump has made some characteristically nasty remarks about him
Some US news sources described Mattis's departure as "the last adult leaving the room in the Trump administration"
Yes, he is.
No, he did not.
And you know Mattis was fired by Obama in 2013, right? Trump gave him another chance. Mattis blew it. Maybe Mattis's problem is Mattis?
Leave it to the WaPO to find a way to pump some air into the dead, empty lungs of "muh Russia collusion".
Looks like the Turks approve of Trump's decision. I'm not sure that the Kurds are so happy.
A lot of people aren't happy; especially in Washington DC. This is the first time the ruling class has seen a war end and they aren't sure what they should feel about it.
Relief probably, that they've still got another half dozen or so simmering away.
Erdogan is a fascist and a supporter of ISIS. He has also deliberately manipulated the refugee crisis in Europe to win concessions for Turkey. I wish the Kurds the best of luck in their fight for autonomy.
The Turkish leader supported ISIS and undermined attempts by people in that region to liberate themselves from those medieval idiots.
These are battlefield deaths. Deaths caused by homicide have also declined massively over the past 200 years particularly in Europe. There are exceptions, but the trend is global. Violent deaths in England are a comparitive rarity today compared to the past.
An ex colleague of mine is married to a man who used to be a lawyer before Erdogan took over and destroyed Turkish Society. He was in prison for almost a year (never charged with anything) and then released. He heard they were after him again and pulled off a quite remarkable escape in a rowing boat in the dead of night to a Greek Island. After spending some more time in a prison cell in Greece he was released again and made his way to Germany where he has now claimed asylum.
The war has no more ended in 2018 because there will be no more American involvement, than the second world war started in 1941.
Other countries are involved. And we really should remember how the whole Iraq/Syria/ISIS bloodbath started
You could have skipped the words and just posted a GIF of someone wagging their finger, you know.
You can say what you want about ISIS but at least they're not Islamophobic.
