What level do you class this as

Discussion in 'Teaching assistants' started by overtherainbow, Nov 11, 2011.

  1. You work in a class with reception - you are a key worker group therefore are responsible for the learning journeys, tracking and parents come to you with issues/queries including this you are the one parents meet at parents evening

on top of this you plan for 4 groups of phonics across 2 classes,

you teach half a class 4 times a day both numeracy, literacy, and phonics

you cover the teachers management time and ppa time (therefore take the whole class)

you plan activities for the different areas of learning in the classroom

you take small groups during the day for interventions

you take all work home as you don't get any planning time for yourself

if you were doing all this what level TA do you think you should be

I'm glad you asked what level the TA should be, because if it was a pupil, I'd be concentrating on basic sentence formation. Capital letters and full stops???????

  4. I did write this all spaced out but when it posted it came up like one big paragraph sorry.

  5. At our school level 3 TAs do not do that amount of extra work.
I am a HLTA and you do some of the things that I do.
You sound a little overwhelmed and unhappy. Are you hoping for a pay rise or a reduction in your responsibilities?

  6. As a HLTA what else do you do that is on top of this?

  7. Lead monthgly TA meeting. Mentor and Train the TAs in my school.
Run an after school art club.
Plan, prepare and resource KS2 lessons that I cover. Mark and assess work from these lessons.
Write termly reports for the lessons that I cover.
Plan, prepare and lead sessions 2 days a week in KS2 as a trained Forest School leader.
Run the school library (purchase/select loans of books, deal with outside agencies, teach groups to use the library, shelve and organise books)
Plan and resource intervention groups for phonics, numeracy and handwriting.
Responsible for 8 display boards KS2 corridor.
    Attend parents evenings.
    Attend staff meetings.
Like a lot of people in schools I struggle with my work load but I do love my job.

  8. Ok that is a lot

I also write reports, do the assessments and base lining.
I run an afterschool club with year 1 and 2, previous to this ran it with year 3 and 4 and 5.
and I attend staff meetings weekly and phase meetings.
I am responsible for the setting up of the classroom and the outdoors area.
and at lunch times i also supervise a group of children that have special needs.

hmm so is this level 3

  9. I'd say that you're probably doing duties associated with a full time L3 TA. What level are you, out of interest?

  10. A mug. If they don't give you time, it doesn't get done.
