I need a simple explanation as I dont know!
FFT. Fischer family trust (also known as Fisher Price in many establishments) is a prediction of GCSE grades based (I believe) on KS2 data, as far as I am aware it takes no account of a child's attitude to learning.
Value added is the amount attained over and above a prediction.
This is the link to the FFT
The bane of all our lives!
Is it? Only if you let it be. That's the thing about Data - you need to use it to inform a conversation and not let it be a bane to your life.
Anyway - 4 values for FFT Data and remember these data are estimates...
A - based on prior attainment
B - prior attainment and socio economic circumstance
C - what you need to do to play your part in reaching national / LA targets
D - based on progress of schools in top 25th percentile of value added scores nationally
Remember to let this inform you and and aid your progress, don't let it be a whipping stick!
Spoken like a true "manager"
Fact 1... FFT IS used as a whipping stick by practically every SLT I've ever come across.
Fact 2... FFT works a bit for core subjects (it at least correlates) but is useless for DT, Art e.t.c.
Fact 3... FFT makes no concessions or adjustments for individual circumstances such as attitude, home life, dependency, abuse, bullying e.t.c
With regards to the last point, schools are supposed to adjust data according to individual circumstances, but they don't.
So to sum up....
FFT is a mathematical equation which crunches data from a number of real and fictional sources to provide a grade which dispite the FFTs own admission that it is a means to start discussion and not a prediction, is used instead of professional judgment and thereforecan be used to kick the **** out of teachers whilst providing managers with some spreadsheets to analise thus justifying their existance and the existance of their ivory towers.
Apologies for the formatting, please TES can we make the forums work with apple products?
