What is a PGCE teacher training salary?

Discussion in 'Thinking of teaching' started by Keziah_M, Jun 18, 2012.

  1. It might be what they're calling the bursary.
I asked my university to write a letter stating how much I will be receiving (so I can use it as proof of income for renting a house) and they called it a training salary on there even though elsewhere they call it a bursary.

  2. Thanks that was fast!
  3. It is the bursary - it is called that and not a salary officially as you do not pay tax or NI on the bursary. This makes it very worthwhile tax and NI is normally about 30 - 35% of a salary - so if your bursary is £9000 then it is the equivalent of earning a salary of £11,700+ per year.
