What does "Service Orientation" mean?

Discussion in 'Jobseekers' started by lCatherinel, Mar 31, 2012.

  1. So, I'm on the hunt for jobs again after my latest rejection. I've just come across one that seemed ok until I read the person specification. It is probably the most detailed one I have seen. There is a section on Emotional intelligence and in there is an essential of "Service orientation". So, anyone have any idea what this means? I asked google and it came up with something about agriculture.

No answers I'm afraid. I tried researching it too (putting in Education and service orientation)and came up with nothing much other than in terms of IT.
Just didn't want you to feel neglected.

  4. Ah well... at least it isn't just me and I don't feel like I "should" know what it means now. I think I will just not apply to that one.

  5. Hmm could this have something to do with you recognising that you are providing a service and therefore see the pupils as service users and therefore appreciate their value to you as aprovider. May be well off the mark though. By the way don't not apply. Does the PS say how this will be identified references, interview etc. To me this is almost impossible to justify in writing but instead how you interact with the pupils on interview day. You must apply

It is a quite common concept in businesses.

Basically, it means total devotion to serving the needs of the people that the business is dealing with. So in a school, putting the children's needs at the forefront for everything that you do. Children come first. Every Child Matters.
Which you do, of course, so no problem.
P.S. Tip for next time: if you want an answer from me as Forum Expert (Pauses to Shine his Nails), then do put "Dear Theo" as part of your title. I don't have time to open every thread just to see if you need me.
    Best wishes
