What do you make of this remark?

  1. I overheard a conversation recently and it rather knocked the wind out of my sails. The two women concerned were discussing a hairdresser they know, who has cancer and has lost her hair due to chemo.
One of the women remarked that she though it 'despicable' that the hairdresser has gone back to work 'bald' and that it would put customers off, or make them feel uncomfortable. She felt that she 'ought' to wear a wig.
Definitely one of those 'eh??????' moments.

  3. Wow.
The stupidity and insensitivity of some people is breathtaking. I'm sure the majority of the hairdresser's clients would be pleased to see her well enough to come back to work.

Thank you! We're trying to stay positive, and her type of leukaemia has a 90% cure rate. The doctors are very optimistic, and she's doing well. She was only diagnosed 2 months ago. It was a massive shock.
After seeing the effects of chemo, I am very impressed that anyone can go to work while going through it.

That'll be "Tony Steinberg..." by Taylor Mali (the guy who wrote "What Teachers Make") . A truly moving piece of writing.
