What do I need to get onto a PGCE?

Discussion in 'Primary' started by JamesBrownell, Sep 10, 2012.

  1. HI,
I have recently passed my degree, unfortunately, i got a third! I have tried to get onto several pGCE courses but all Universities wont accept my third. I am wondering if any one knows of top up courses or anything I can do to top up my third to get onto a PGCE?

My uni (oxford Brookes) accepted people with a third 2 years ago, and it's a really good course there. There is new government guidance on this though so it may have changed. The government believe teachers need a really high level degree to be able to teach, so you can't get on a PGCE course with below a 2.1 (that was the news a while ago). On the other hand, you no longer need a teaching qualification to teach in an academy, and long term the government want all schools to be academies, so you may be fine!
