A book is a welcome gift. A good historical bodice ripper, a twisting crime novel, a history book from a period you're interested in, humour, a graphic novel or a book about your hobby.

However, if anyone gave me a book from those suggested here:

I'd shove it up their ar *e!

Quite right. Teachers shouldn't slob out reading something full of sex and violence. Work, work, work.
I would like something on vertebrate brain evolution; grammar and parsing as well as a book with sex and violence.

Urgh... horrible list... I'd not read a single one.

Now if someone could give me hardback copies of the remaining Terry Pratchett's I don't own that'd be welcome.

Received ''Going Postal'' in the mail this morning...

The I-Spy Book of No Deal Brexit.

Might as well get some enjoyment out of it :)

Has anybody done the Ladybird version yet?

    Errrr no thank you!

Some naff, brainless chicklit is always welcome, but not those books.

Oh Lordy - I won't be suggesting any of these for my Book Club...

I love reading over Xmas. Non fiction and biographies for me.

Well that's a refreshing variation on "thanks, just what I always wanted" through teeth.

I haven't read a book in years - teaching has robbed me of my attention sp

The best book gift is an introduction to a new author. None of those on that list would qualify.

I have recently discovered the JD Robb In Death series. Enjoyable escapism.

And very patronising in the sense that it suggests that teachers have nothing better to do than read about their job all the time. We're human, we have families, we eat, sleep and dare I say have s*x when little Mr Shedman and Mrs Shedman are up for it. If anybody gave me one of these books from that wretched list I'd think they were taking the p* ss.

Does this imply that you've actually read previous books by these authors?

I've put this, a biography of Pauline Boty, a forgotten pop artist, and contemporary of Peter Blake and David Hockney, on my Amazon wish list. It's twenty quid so not something I'd buy for myself, really. Athough I could, I suppose....

There was a Culture Show special several months ago - Pop Go the Women, Pauline featured heavily.
