what are HOD's looking for in a NQT ?

    I would say the ability to teach the kids at my school - that's what I used to look for to start with! Then comes things like common sense, enthusiasm, someone who would make a good contribution to the team, good references, good subject knowledge (the right subject knowledge too!)... the list goes on!

    It really does vary massively on the school and your own HoD. Some want you to do as your told and teach 'traditionally' where as some love that you will use initiative and want to push the subject forward.
    I'd suggest you just put yourself across just as you are in the covering letter, you want to end up in a school that you like and where your style of teaching will help you, the department, and the pupils excel. Best of luck x
