I have come to the conclusion that the person who creates the jokes for Christmas crackers makes these lines up

Seems we are getting more like rhinos every day, nearly extinct.

There are many other statistical things we could cite with time references which might or might not have a bearing on the fact that teachers are in short supply. I ask you to draw your own correlations.

There are more schools than ever before.
There are more children in the U.K. than ever before.
There are more hungry children, but there were possibly more hungry children in the past just not so recently.
There are more girls who cannot afford sanitary products, but quite possibly not more than ever before.
There are more unelected SPADs on significant salaries than ever before.
There are fewer qualified teachers who are electing to teach than the number of teaching vacancies in the system.

    Reminds me of:

Spending on education is at record levels.
Spending on education is at record levels.
Spending on education is at record levels.

The motto of the May leadership is simple: choose a factually true statement, ignore its lack of contextual relevance and trot it out until you have bored the general public into believing it is true. It's a habit forming ploy which manages to be both dishonest and factually correct at the same time. Sickly fascinating.

Isn't it actually the case that there are more trained teachers now outside the profession than in it.

A local MAT has begun grooming its 6th form students for teacher training posts as well as bending the SD rules for alumni. Watching with interest.
