Programme on ITV atm about their number 1 hits. Lovely pictures of George Harrison. Ah. I did love him.

Lennon and McCartney were prolific and talented writers - but Harrison wrote the most beautiful and arguably greatest Beatles tunes.

The Beatles were massively popular, but they were never really cool.

But... @cuteinpuce the catalogue...... what a phenomenal, wonderful catalogue of songs.....

That concert for George....... Dhanni Harrison looked the spitting image of his Dad, and next day there was a picture of him, playing, in a newspaper and under it was the caption "Here comes the son". I liked that.

Cannot pretend they were not a half decent pop band but even though he said it so charmingly and without malice, Fats Domino was so right when he said ' what you now are calling new music we have been playing for years'.

Check out those earlier black blues/blues rock players and it is painfully obvious what the Beetles and Stones did.(The Stones to their credit have never pretended otherwise)

Argos has a very successful catalogue but they've never been cool either.

The three top-selling Beatles songs are: She Loves You, I Wanna Hold Your Hand and Can't Buy Me Love. Does anyone sing them, or listen to them, these days?

To be honest, I've never really considered the Beatles to be entertaining (particularly Sir Paul.)
