Upper Primary PGCE interview

Discussion in 'Thinking of teaching' started by lauralooroll, Dec 21, 2011.

  1. Hi all, I have just received an invite for interview @ York St Johns Uni, I'm desperate to get a place on the course!!!
I graduated in 2008 in performing arts with a 2:2, and ever since I've applied every year, with just the one interview back in 2008 - when I didn't really know why I wanted to teach - needless to say I didn't get accepted. But now I've gained more experience in schools and teaching by going to Thailand to teach English, running drama clubs, and working as a TA with SEN children. I'm so desperate to get on this course as I love teaching and will embrace all the challenges that go with it. Please can anyone help me, give me advice, etc.
    Thanks x

I did a secondary RE PGCE at YSJ and had a 2:2 in a non specialist subject and was worried about my experience and qualifications. I worked in a school for 9 months before hand to gain experience, which really helped. Prepare for the interview as much as you can. I got loads of helpful info from TES so have a search.
Your presentation- make it look good and be confident.
Be prepare for questions about why you want to be a teacher, show enthusiasm and commitment in the things you've been doing to gain experience.
Read up on educational issues, and what's been happening in education and Primary.
Try to smile and and enjoy it! Good luck.

  4. I cant seem to find anyone on here that is also doing the York St Johns, Upper Primary PGCE interview this year.
I've been frantically working on Bitesize, but to be fair the scariest part of the interview for me is the written task about - "The PGCE becoming a masters level qualification & teaching becoming a Masters level qualification". Dont know where to start with this!
Anyone out there that can help please do! xxxxx

  5. Hi Laura,
Hope your not going to crazy about the interview, I keep thinking stay positive ;) Ive also got an interview for upper primary in 2 weeks. The masters paper seems so hard to get to grips with but I think its about understanding the content and maybe the further reading is essential. When is your interview? Also have you decided on your group presentation subject??

  6. Hi guys, I am going crazy! Its this bloody written task its driving me insane! I don't know which way to go with it? One day I think I've got it then I read it again and I just feel really thick trying to come to grips with it! Aaaargh! If we had a set question it wouldn't be half as bad. Have you any ideas on where to go with it?
I've been going on BBC bitesize for the tests - not as scared for those, I'm still not 100% on my group task and could do with someone who knows what sort of questions well get in the actual interview. Other than that ... lol!
