I am currently working as a HLTA and am a member of the GMB union as school support staff. From April, I will be starting the TES Institute Straight to Teaching programme to prepare me for QTS assessment. Do I need to change my union membership to one of the main teaching unions or do I stick with GMB until such point as I’ve gained my QTS and been employed as a teacher? Thanks

If you count as trainee/student, NEU membership is free...

Can't help you with the Union question, @marbles78 - just want to wish you lots of luck with starting your teaching programme. All the best!
