    Hi all,
I completed a PGCE in Secondary and Post Compulsory at Lancaster University in 2008. I never took a job in teaching at the time I qualified but now I want to make the most of my qualifications and start to teach.
However, I am really struggling to understand if I got QTS through my PGCE and everyone I speak to is giving me different answers. I have also phoned up with regards to my Teacher Reference Number but have now been told I am not on their files. It really is soul destroying stuff.
Is there anyone who can help me out? Have I missed something somewhere? It feels like my PGCE hasn't given me anything to allow me to teach in schools. I'm sure this can't be right!! Help please

When you say you have phoned up, who did you phone? Was it the Teaching Regulation Agency on the contact phone number/email on this page?

And they said you aren't on the Database of Qualified Teachers (DQT)? Did you ask them how you can register for QTS now if your qualification entitles you to QTS?

Do you recall whether you ever received confirmation that you had been given QTS at the time? Have you ever been given a Teacher Reference Number?

Have you contacted Lancaster University to ask them whether they should have registered you for QTS at the time (I don't know how the process operated in 2008)?

    Thanks for your reply.
I have spoken to the people mentioned and been told that because my PGCE was Secondary and Post Compulsory that I do not qualify for QTS. I have never been given a TRN because the TRA does not deal with FE qualifications. I can apply for QTLS through the Society for Education and Training.
This is again leading me to believe that my PGCE has qualified me for nothing. I have looked at doing another PGCE specialising in Primary which will give me QTS but I don't think I would get student finance for it as it is a second PGCE even though it would qualify me to do what I want to do. No way I could afford the fees and quit work to take the course.
I'm so confused and I can see why people get so frustrated when trying to get back into teaching.
