    Hello

The curriculum leader in school would like all groups to complete the Triple science award. Currently, only the top set follow this curriculum route. All other groups follow Combined Science Trilogy. Science groups have 12 hours curriculum time at KS4. What are your thoughts on this? Have any other schools moved whole cohorts to Triple?

Triple can be better for some of the kids that convention normally keeps away from it. The three sciences are very different and some can be good at one or two and much weaker at the other, in which case their coordinated grade can be brought down by that.

Naturally as a scientist I prefer triple but it does limit their other choices by one so while I might encourage it, I wouldn't want to impose it on even the stronger ones.

Not all kids enjoy science and may wish to do something else. Making everyone do triple surely removes an option from them?

No because your school will try and use the extra science for EBACC so you will be forced to massively push students to achieve in all three papers and the result will be 9 exam papers and having to explain why students are not achieving their target grades when its only science but they don't understand the differences between trilogy and separate.

Also it removes the choice from students to have a more broad curriculum.

There is a large amount of work to cover in Separate over Trilogy. The lower groups will find the pace rather fast. Especially for those students to whom you would consider offering the foundation level. There remains the possibility of 'dropping' the extra science and entering them for the Trilogy exam once the mock results are in.
