Trip to Cologne - activity ideas

We are taking 48 year 10 students to Germany in July and have a day in Cologne. We are visiting the sports museum and chocolate museum in the morning, followed by the cathedral after lunch.
After having been to the cathedral we wanted to give students time in Cologne to look around the shops and buy souvenirs, however we are not able to do this as they have to be supervised, and they would not want to be chaperoned around the shops. We therefore need a new activity for the afternoon. The tour company we are using has suggested mini-golf, however I'd rather they do something that they could not do here, but we don't really want to take them to another museum.
Does anybody have any suggestions in or near Cologne?

    River cruise!!!
We have 3D mini golf booked also.
Zoo is also a suggestion, and a cable car ride over the rhine.
We are going for a traditional bauhaus meal and for 10 pin bowling too.

Thank you for your reply. We have the river cruise and cable car booked for another day, and are planning on the bowling as an evening activity. We have now decided on taking them up the cathedral, and are going to a shopping area outside of the city centre.

The Cathedral isn't very group-friendly to be honest.
The sight-seeing cruise was good and is done in a variety of Languages.
The sculpture park up by the zoo is worth a visit too
