Tony Abbott urges Europe to adopt Australian policies in refugee crisis

Former Australian prime minister Tony Abbott has called on Europe to take on Australia’s border security policies or risk “catastrophic error” and urged Western nations to “stand up for ourselves”.

In his first major speech since being forced out, Abbott said Europe should close its borders to migrants.

“The Australian experience proves that the only way to dissuade people seeking to come from afar is not to let them in,” he said.

He may be looking for a way back to the top job after being ousted, a la Kevin Rudd, but good for him.

I wonder how many Australian expats claim benefits in the UK?

It's like the USA; sons of immigrants who took over from the original human population telling other immigrants to stay out of their country.

Have you heard about the Dictation Test and the White Australia policy that they used to have but were forced to relinquish because of the Populate or Perish policy?

Incidentally Australia is taking 12,000 Syrian asylum seekers.

Incidentally Australia is more than 12 times the size of this country but we're taking a minimum of 20,000.

Most countries world wide have quite strict limits on how many migrants they are willing to accept and who they are willing to accept. Nearly all of the westernised ones have very hard rules - and all could be accused of being immigrants refusing immigrants but it does not stop them. Nor should it. Australia particularly has a policy of banging them on boats and back before they land. The USA have always had a similar policy . Its a seven day wonder when a country imposes such rules. There just has to be a political will.

Europe is heading for a cultural and economic disaster on a grand scale with the policy of taking so many. News stories suggest that Germany is feeling similar pressures now in similar ways to Britain. I work in an area where we are already under extreme pressure and I see the consequences . .

As the original article points out, most are not refugees, they are migrants seeking out the countries with the most attractive way of life for them.

As Angela Merkle once said ( although she has now backtracked ) " you cant all come" - but it seems they are...... It is common sense that says we cannot take therm all.

And she's now saying it again. But probably too late as it's likely she'll be forced to resign in the next few months. Before that she'll probably back-track again. You know how consistency-challenged these europhiles are.

He's also right when he says "Our moral obligation is to receive people fleeing for their lives.

“It’s not to provide permanent residency to anyone who would rather live in a prosperous Western country than their own. That’s why the countries of Europe, while absolutely obliged to support the countries neighbouring the Syrian conflict, are more than entitled to control their own borders against those who are no longer fleeing a conflict but seeking a better life.

“This means turning boats around, for people coming by sea. It means denying entry at the border for people with no legal right to come; and it means establishing camps for people who currently have nowhere to go."

Pish posh. You guys talk like a country has some kind of right to decide who gets to live there or some kind of responsibility to those who do already. That's old school. Everyone knows that we have to make room, no questions asked, for anyone who shows up out of the blue and can tell a sad story.

When my grandparents emigrated from Finland in 1905 they just showed up at Ellis Island one day and were taken in, no questions asked. No ID check. No health exam. Then they said they should get lots of free stuff and they were given free stuff. Then they demanded to be given a free house and they were and then they demanded that everything be translated into Finnish because they couldn't speak English and wouldn't learn and so it was and they wanted everyone else to become Calvinists because they were so everyone did and they brought up their children to be Finns because they looked down on Americans and only wanted to be with other Finns and convert everybody to Finnish ways and that's why America is now the Finnish State and Washington DC has been renamed New Helsinki.

Oh wait. That didn't happen. In fact, the opposite happened. That's why New Helsinki doesn't exist. If we want New Raqqa to not exist, we better wise up.

Yes Tony Abbott the devout catholic who used a gunboat to prevent poor and unfortunate men women and children reaching safety. We have much to learn from such a character.
