    Hi

My colleague was in charge of the primary transition project and is off sick so I got landed with it. I have 75 Primary pupils coming to the high school on Wednesday and I need to plan a lesson based on the Titanic but in French?!
I was thinking about making them do boarding card but if anyone has any suggestions or ideas , they are more than welcome .

    Merci
    B

Why based on the Titanic? Why in French? Sounds very contrived!

Well I asked the same question. The primary schools have decided on the topic and we just have to do it unfortunately. We use to do guitar hero which was a huge success but they have changed it due to the anniversary of the Titanic!
each department has to do something and it is challenging in French in my opinion
    :)

Have just looked up iceberg in French- not a word I've ever needed to use- it is the same word in French!
Might be an opportunity to do some `language detective' work- give them some texts that you have made up with lots of cognates and ask them to decipher. Ocean Atlantique, bateau, passagers a bord, hommes, femmes, enfants etc. Try to use words they already know in this new context. Simplify some internet texts that are bound to be out there.
My best advice is to do a mindmap for starters.

  6. A good idea from funambule. I agree it is all very contrived.
An alternative could be to use funambule's idea but using menus from the Titanic. I am sure they must still exist and in First Class they would have been written in French. Stretching it a bit I know!

What is it about primary schools jumping on every band wagon that passes?

You could do something about items to pack in a suitcase, or labelling the rooms in the ship, signs around the ship, menus, deck games, compas points, sending messages using code, writing a letter/postcard home etc.
You might want to peek at the unit on West Sussex Grid for Learning on Refugees in WW11 in French, much of which could be adapted.

Sounds exciting - there are some clips in French of the film Titanic on YouTube by the way, Also try http://www.france24.com/fr/20120414-il-y-a-cent-ans-le-titanic-coulait-paquebot-naufrage-hommage-anniversaire-iceberg-irlande and http://titanic.pagesperso-orange.fr/page143.htm also http://fr.vikidia.org/wiki/Titanic And there is a menu here http://titanic.pagesperso-orange.fr/page104.htm
