The EIS is certainly concerned about losing the SNCT. Why? In my opinion ...
    1. They would lose their dominant position and the ability to negotiate on behalf of their members.
    2. The consequences of losing national bargaining for FE lecturers have been grim.
However, in my opinion also ...
    1. COSLA is by no means united. There are 32 local authorities. Anti local authority which did attack teachers' pay and conditions could be targeted for industrial action. A fighting fund could be created to help subsidise teachers in those authorities.
    2. 5 000 FE lecturers with very varied qualifications and backgrounds. V 50 000 teachers with strong links academically, socially and a history of successful industrial action in the past. The comparison is not valid.
