I am on supply at the minute. So I was thinkind of doing some 1:1 tuition over the Easterholiday, as I won't be getting paid.
I've not done this from home before, I have done 1:1 at my old school after school. Is it as simple as putting an advert in my local newsagents, on gum tree etc and simply take on whoever contacts me? Or do I need to be registered with an agency or something?

    Thanks in advance
  2. Hello Skills
You don't have to register with anyone.. there are no regulations, though you can join an agency if you want (of course they will take a cut of the fees the tutee pays!), but if you are struggling to find tutees, it might help!
If you are working on your own you do not have to tutor everyone who asks - it might be worth arranging some sort of probationary period on both sides, in case you don't get on with each other for any reason!
However, once you have a tutee, you should contact the HMRC to talk about how to deal with the tax side of things (there are exemptions to some sorts of taxes, if you have small enough turnover, which helps, but you do need to arrange this from the start!)
I hope some of this helps

Depending on your Key Stage, you may be lucky to find a client who only wants tuition over the holidays. Often that is when they do not want you.

My plan is to advertise for Year 6 SATs revision tuition- mainly maths.
The cildren will be off school for two weeks at Easter so I was hoping to attract parents who want some extra help over this period as when they get back to school they only have 4 weeks till SATs
  6. Hi Langteacher,
I am looking to do MFL tuition on the B'Ham/ Solihull area. Am going to target shop windows this week and get myself on some national tutor internet sites. Are there any you would recommend?
Can I ask you how you have advertised? How is your MFL tutoring going? And how much do you charge per hour?
I am a German specialist and struggling on the dole so any advice would be greatly appreciated.
