Theo, just wanted to ask you about your 1 to 1 interviews

Discussion in 'Jobseekers' started by poppyjones85, Jan 24, 2011.

  1. Hello,I'm quite good at writing applications and getting interviews, however in the interviews I let myself down big time. Either I come across as a nervous wreck or a bit ditzy. I want to start coming across as confident, and a few schools have said to me that I was their second choice and I could have had the job if I was a bit more confident. So where can I find more information about your 1 to 1's and how much they cost? I've decided to shell out and get help with my interview techniques before the rush of jobs in the summer. Also I graduated in 2009 and I feel if I don't get a job by Sept it'll almost be near impossible to do so for the following year.
Thanks for reading this.................... Poppy :)

You can e-mail Julia on advice@tes.co.uk and she will discuss with you what is best for you; if you give a phone number she'll talk you through it if you ask her to.
I believe - but as I don't get this money I am not 100% sure - that the fees are for the short one-to-one (45-60 mins) £200, and for the long one-to-one (2h 30 mins) £350.
The TES charges will only seem high if you haven't seen what other Careers Guidance people charge! TES has deliberately set its charges at a reasonable rate compared to them. I know that several people have gone begging to the Bank of Mum and Dad for money to come and see us, as it can be seen as an investment in your future.
And the big advantage of the TES Advice Service is that it is actually done by people (i.e. people like Prof Howson and me) who are experts in education, and experts in education appointments. We know what we are talking about!
Here are two testimonials written by Tessers who tried the service:
    Dear Everyone... I met TheoGriff!
Theo's 'One to One' careers service....
The first poster, May, who was looking to do her induction, then started another thread::
Dear Theo I got the job!
As for LondonChap, he is an experienced teacher who has a very specific type of post in mind for his next move. He has recently e-mailed me to say that it looks as though the application season for that is just opening, so we expect good news by Easter.
Here's what the one-to-one half day interview coaching session is all about:
In this half-day session, you will have the opportunity to discuss how to present yourself effectively in both your written application (including advice on writing an application letter and Executive Summaries) and the appointment interview, with ‘mock' interview practice to put into effect the techniques that I show you.
    I will:
    • Help you identify your strengths and develop strategies to illustrate them
    • Consider possible questions for your job level and area
    • Suggest techniques for answering questions
    • Work with you to identify examples in your professional experience that relate to specific job competencies, for focused answers to questions
    • Emphasise your professional qualities
    • Advise you on your personal presentation and the non-verbal messages you may be communicating
    • Be supportive; I'll tell you what you are doing right and how to build further on this
    • Be honest and, if necessary, blunt. I'll tell you where you are going wrong, and suggest ways to remedy this
    I won't:
    • Provide you with model answers
    • Tell you how great you are just to make you feel good
    • Pull the punches
Get in touch with Julia to talk about it. I have cleared half-term week of other commitments so I can fit people in more easily.
    Best wishes

I am BUMPing this because yesterday after the Job Application Workshop, one of the delegates was telling the rest of the group about a one-to-one meeting that she had had with me earlier in the day.
She had had a one-hour meeting in which we worked on a specific problem with interviews. She said that it had been hard to find out how to book this, although she was most certainly glad that she had persevered!
To discuss the options with Julia our super Administrator , and to enquire about availability, contact her on advice@tsleducation.com.
