The value of R

    The problem will all have is there is no mathematical explanation of how the R value is calculated either regionally locally or nationally.
    I believe it is very much a best guess by whoever decides.
    As mathematician to give a value to 2 decimal places seems unusual

    No one explains how it is calculated

    Or number of new infections each day
    Or the forecast for the winter months

    According to the the largest study so far into the spread of coronavirus across England, by Imperial College London and involving 120,000 volunteers, infection rates fell significantly in May, halving every eight to nine days and resulting in an overall reproduction rate of 0.57 – significantly lower than previously reported.
